Our sections join thousands around the globe to take part in a day of feminist struggle
Local unions in ICL sections around the globe have taken to the streets to mark the 8th of March as a day of feminist struggle. We have joined hundreds of thousands worldwide to send a clear message: despite the offensive by the sexists and the far-right, feminism is here to stay!
That is no idle statement. The last years have seen a resurgence of sexist attitudes, together with the rise of far-right parties across the board, in some cases achieving positions of power from which they can implement their reactionary agenda. As such, they are targeting migrants, disabled persons, different races and ethnic groups, women and members of the LGBTQ+ community, among others. Feminism is at the forefront of this battle, and it is a position from which we can oppose this onslaught. The 8M demonstrations are a good opportunity to remember that we are many and to shout that we don’t want their racist, sexists and discriminatory policies!
This general goal boils down to very specific measures in each context and situation, and ICL sections reflect this in their concrete demands. Feminism is no white castle divorced from reality. It impacts our every-day lives in many ways. Be it defending the right to abortion, fighting the religious zealots in our societies, ending the discrimination of our LGBTQ+ comrades or demanding clean toilets in factories and the access to menstrual products, there is no shortage of practical reasons to join the feminist struggle.
All our section and their local unions have done so, each with their own demands and responses to local and global grievances, and have helped drafting a very loud message: long life the transfeminist rebellion, that defends our rights in the workplace and in society!
